Mrs. Ruby Viola de Hasn died at the Ramona hospital at 7 o'clock. She had been in good health and was suddenly taken sick ill and was rushed to the hospital for an appendicitis operation. Just last week her friends gathered at the DeHaan home on Mount Terrace and gave her a surprise party In honor of her thirtieth birthday. DeHaan was active in church . Leader of the On work In Rialto and was a member Leong ton?, survived by her husband William de Haan, and four little daughters , Dorothy seven years old; Barbara, five and a half years old; June, she is a three and a half years old and Wilma Jean 11 months old.

On her birthday several friends gathered and surprised Mrs. William DeHaan at the Mount Terrace ranch. One of the friends took the honoree for an automobile ride in the afternoon, and when she returned all the rest were gathered at her home with their covered-dish supper In readiness. The surprise was said to have been complete. After the Jolly supper hour the group rolled up the rugs and danced. Some played cards, and the party took on a regular festive air. Those who were present besides Mr. and Mrs. William DeHaan, were Mr. and Mrs. Ward Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Loehr, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Logue, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Kingman, Mr. and Mrs. Abe DeHaan, of Chicago; Miss Eva Bemis and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Hoover.

**About William DeHaan: When William DeHaan was born on October 13, 1897, in Chicago, Illinois, his father, Arend, was 31 and his mother, Hendricka, was 23. He married Ruby Scrivens in 1919. They had four daughters during their marriage. He died on May 16, 1961, in Orange, California, at the age of 63.
