Henry A. Otto, age 78 of Lester Prairie, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998 at St. Mary's Care Center in Winsted, Minn.

He was born in Winsted Township, McLeod County on July 19, 1919, the son of Albert and Mary Pint Otto.

On May 23, 1944, Henry Otto was joined in holy marriage to Eileen Stifter at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with nine children.

He was born on and lived his entire life on the Otto family homestead in Winsted Township. He engaged in farming there for many years.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted; Knights of Columbus Council #8253; Holy Family Council and a member of the Winsted Elevator Board.

Henry received a Conservation Award for outstanding accomplishments in resource conservation and a citation for 24 years of distinguished service as a board member of the Winsted Farmers Elevator.

Otto was active in his parish, enjoyed his family and friends, farming, dancing and playing cards.

Surviving him are his wife, Eileen Otto; children: Karen (David) Schoen of Winsted, Lois (Richard) Nolan of Waverly, Kenneth (Dolores) Otto of Vadnais Heights, Kathleen (William) Graham of Waverly, Ronald (Darlene) Otto of Winsted, Robert (Colleen) Otto of Lester Prairie, Laurence Otto of Lester Prairie, Richard Otto of Wildwood Crest, New Jersey, and Susan (Jeff) Muenchow of Silver Lake.

Further surviving him are 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters: Margaret Lee of Pengilly, Hildegard York of Manchester, Conn., Lorraine Otto of Richfield, Minn.; sisters-in-law: Katherine Otto of Winsted, Elizabeth Otto of New Hope, Minn., Irene Otto of Lester Prairie; and many other relatives and friends.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Otto, brothers: John, William, George and Benedict Otto and sisters: Cecilia Corr and Eleanor Richter.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Henry Otto was held on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. The Reverend Robert J. Wyffels was the Celebrant and interment followed at the church cemetery.

Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted on Monday afternoon and evening, Jan. 5, from 4 until 9 p.m. A Holy Family Council Rosary was recited at 4:30 p.m., a Parish Prayer Service at 7 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8:30 p.m.

Henry's 20 grandchildren all participated in the Mass. Angie Otto was a soloist. Tammy Wilson, Tanya Schoen, Teresa Nolan, Bryanna Otto, Wendy Graham, Erica Graham, Melanie Otto and Nicole Muenchow were the Gift Bearers.

The casketbearers were: Todd Schoen, Troy Schoen, Timothy Nolan, Mark Otto, Jamie Graham, Brian Graham, Greg Otto, Ryan Otto, Jeremy Otto, Jason Otto, and Stephen Muenchow.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
