Julie E. Gopon, nee Smith, of Montgomery, TX, was called home to the Lord on Sunday, June 13, 2021, following a short, courageous battle with cancer. Born in Chicago on Aug 6, 1943, she is survived by her devoted husband Gene; loving children Denise (Patrick) Larsen, Jeffrey, Kevin (Tina) and Steve (Mary) Gopon; beloved grandchildren Julie, Jessica, Nicholas and Samuel Larsen, Regina, Renee, Michael and Gene Gopon, Brooke and Haley Hallman: cherished great-granddaughter Sterling Gilling; dear sisters Nancy Sarlin and Patricia (Bill) Miner and her Brother-in-law Leon Gopon, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Julie was preceded in death by many beloved relatives and friends.
Julie and Gene met when they worked at Woolworth's in high school and were married for 56 years. Her greatest joy was her family.
Visitation will be held at Cumberland Chapels on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home, and will then proceed to St. Monica Church in Chicago for Mass at 11:00am. The entombment will follow at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Mausoleum within All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
