Born August 21, 1930 in Gilman, Iowa, he was the youngest of eight children born to Albert and Virgil (Bales) Gunderson. Shortly after graduating high school, Arlan met the love of his life, Delores Calvert. They were united in marriage on February 17, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Growing up knowing the hard work and dedication of cultivating the land, Arlan continued the family business as a farmer. He raised and showed Angus cattle, as well as raising hogs and chickens. Though free time was hard to come by, Arlan enjoyed playing horseshoes and fishing. He was also an avid "Cubbies" fan. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 71 years, Delores and numerous nieces and nephews. In death, Arlan is reunited with his parents and his seven siblings: Justin, Ivan, Irene, Gladys, Maxille, Maxine and Helen.
