John P. "Butch" Bahantka Sr.
Bedford, NH
Formerly of Horseheads, NY passed away Sunday June 13, 2021 at the age of 76. Butch was born on February 11, 1945 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late William and Catherine Kozemko Bahantka. Butch was preceded by his wife of 53 years, Darline; brother, William Bahantka Jr. and sister, Rosemarie May.

He is survived by his children, Ann Marie (Holly) Bahantka, John (Taylor) Bahantka Jr., and Michael (Marta) Bahantka; grandchildren, Lance, Emry, Sophia and Dominic; brother, Francis (Charlotte) Bahantka, Sister in-law Marilyn Bahantka; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Butch was retired from NYSEG. He moved to New Hampshire after his beloved wife passed in October of 2019. He had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. Even with Covid restrictions we spent last Summer having socially distanced family cookouts every weekend. He loved watching the birds and was able to fish in the brook right in his backyard. While in extreme pain the last year of his life he fought through many long hospital stays, disabilities and he never gave up. He continued to follow a passion for painting and dreamed about golfing one day even though he was in a wheelchair. He was a great Dad, always had time to play catch, go camping and attended every sporting and school event we had. He had many friends and caregivers at Bentley Commons in Bedford, NH who will miss him dearly. The family wishes to thank the staff at Bentley Commons in Bedford and Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH for the loving care and support over the past year.

The family will welcome relatives and friends to Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St., at Rt. 13, Horseheads, NY on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 11-12PM. As all are welcomed, we will be adhering to NYS regulations for social distancing. Butch will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery immediately following visitation.

Those wishing to remember Butch please consider donations in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or Alzheimer's Association, 435 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14620.
