Joseph Marion TROUT was born 5 Jul 1836 in Lebanon, Wilson, TN, the son of Adam TROUT (circa 1800 - 14 Apr 1841) and Lucretia "Sally" DALLAS (circa 1804 - circa 1840). Joseph married Amanda Elizabeth ARNOLD (1842-1931) on 27 Aug 1857 in Williamson County, IL.
Joseph died 7 Apr 1899 at age 62 years, 9 months, and 4 days. His wife, Amanda, died some 32 years later on 25 Oct 1931 at age 89 years, 2 months, and 10 days. The names of four of their children who had proceeded them in death, John Wesley; Alvis; Patsy; and Elijah also appear on the back of the stone, perhaps replacing earlier individual stones close by.
Joseph had been believed by many researchers to be the grandson of Joseph Marion TROUT of Franklin County, VA, son of Joseph TROUT, Sr, also of Franklin County, VA, but recent DNA testing has fully proven this simply cannot be true and instead descends from the immigrant Johann Wendel Georg TRAUT (1689-1760) of Lancaster County, PA.
There is also some question regarding his middle initial "M" standing for "Marion," no "original" records have been found reporting this. Records of the time simply recorded his name as "J.M. Trout" or "Joseph M. Trout."
