Wayne Barnhart age 97 of Springfield passed away Friday June 11, 2021, at his residence.
Burial, June 15, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
Wayne was born in Meta April 16, 1924, the son of Lawrence and Irena Woody Barnhart. His wife Betty preceded him in death in 2014. Also preceding were parents; son Greg; granddaughter Monica; brother Carlos and nephew Tommy.
He is survived by two daughters Diane Neeley (Howard); Cathy Veach (John); son David (Karlette); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Wayne was raised on the family farm in Meta, graduated from Meta High School and served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre where he survived a kamikaze attack causing the sinking of his ship. In 1951 he graduated from the University of Missouri, which launched his teaching/administrative career lasting 36 years. He also graduated with a master's degree in 1968.
He worked for Iberia and Waynesville-Ft. Leonard Wood School Districts.
He loved the Lord, was a member and active in the Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed watching Cardinal baseball games. Most recently, Wayne taught a Sunday School Class in the facility where he was living.
