Mr. S. L. Bayless Dead
Former Bartow Citizen Meets Tragic End.
Hit By a Train, the Approach of Which He Was Unaware Because of Ear Muffs.
The remains of Mr. S. L. Bayless were brought from Illinois to Kingston for burial, the interment and funeral taking place last Monday.
Mr. Bayless met death last Wednesday, being killed instantly by being hit by a train. Being a fine engineer, he has been for some time in charge of a canal being built from the Illinois river to the Mississippi, a distance of 127 miles. His headquarters were in a small government house near the railroad. He went out to the railroad track and was stooping down to pick up some object when a train at a thundering rate of speed struck him on the head and killed him instantly. Mr. Bayless left Bartow county over ten years ago. He had resided here a number of years, coming from the north and establishing a mercantile business and building him a handsome home at Kingston. He was well thought of by the people. He leaves a wife and three children. The children are: Mr. Ed. Bayless, of Oklahoma, Miss Belle Bayless and Mrs. Claud Irby of Kingston. The widow and her daughter, Miss Belle, we learn will occupy the old home again at Kingston.
Mr. Bayless was a very prominent Mason. His funeral was attended by delegations from the lodges at Cartersville, Adairsville and Euharlee.
