J. B. HOOKSTRA DIED IN CALIFORNIA
John B. Hookstra, 88, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tennis Hookstra, and a member of a pioneer family of Butler county, died in San Diego, Calif., December 20. He had been a resident of California for thirty years.
Born July 9, 1859, in Marion county, Iowa, he came with his parents to Butler county in a covered wagon in 1865. He was united in marriage with Mary A. Herman, April 3, 1885, in David City. They resided on a farm near Bellwood 29 years, moving to David City in 1913 Mrs. Hookstra passed away July 4, 1914.
He was married again on April 25, 1915, to Mrs Jessie Bledsoe, at Berkeley, Calif., where he has since resided.
Mr. Hookstra was a charter member of the Savannah Methodist church built in 1895 and was a member of the Methodist church at Berkeley.
John Hookstra was the last of his immediate family. His brother Henry T. Hookstra, passed away in 1944 and his sister, Mrs. J. W. Vandermeulen, in 1935. He is survived by his wife in Berkeley, Calif.; two stepsons, Anthony Bledsoe, of Berkeley, and Huntington Beldsoe, of San Diego; also two nieces, Mrs. Minnie Creech, of Bellwood, and Mrs. Hattie Hill, of David City; two nephews, John Vandermeulen, of David City, and Tennis Hookstra, of Omaha.
Funeral services were held at San Diego with interment at Sunset Mausoleum in Berkeley, Calif.
