Mrs. Bettie A. Burton-Meeks, age 79, departed this life and entered into eternal rest, on Thursday, May 27, 2021. She was born to James and Eliza (Cowherd) Spurling on September 11, 1941, in Lexington, KY. Her family made their way to Muskegon, MI and it has been home ever since. She met Clarence Meeks II and through their union, she was blessed with her two sons, Clarence Meeks III and Kevin Meeks Sr. Bettie was a faithful servant of Our Lord and Savior and was a long-time member of the Apostolic Church of God. She attended Whitehall high school and was the graduating class of 1960. She then attended Muskegon Community College where she earned an associates degree. Bettie worked in an administrator position for a longtime at the county bank. She also volunteered her time at a day care program for foster children. There she took on a role, which she loved dearly, as a foster grandmother to many. Bettie also loved to shop, whether that was at the store or online! Above all things she loved her family, being a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She was a tender-loving and gracious woman who will truly be missed by many. She is survived by her 2 sons, Clarence Meeks III and Kevin (Tara) Meeks Sr.; 2 nephews, Brian (Yvonne) Robinson of Georgia and Michael (Casandra) Robinson of Suffolk, VA; 7 grandchildren, Joel (Donia) Meeks, Jasmine Meeks, Mario Dockery, Kevin Meeks Jr., Keontre (Anna) Miskel, Derencio Winters, and Justin Foster; 11 great-grandchildren; Goddaughter, Jasmine Jordan; sister, Lenora Robinson; uncle, Owen "June" (Mable) Cowherd Jr; special friends, Miss Shirley, Miss Sandy and Pastor Michael Burrel. She is preceded in death by her father, James Spurling; mother, Eliza Garner; husband, John Burton in 2019; 2 aunts, Ada Upchurch and Elizabeth McIntyre; 2 uncles, Cooley Cowherd and Joe Cowherd; and special daughter-in-law, Cynthia Dockery. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 12:00 PM at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 with visitation one-hour prior. A visitation will also be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 4-7:00PM at The Lee Chapel.
