WESTMINSTER, SC - Mrs. Bessie Smith Boggs, 82, widow of George M. Boggs, died at an Anderson nursing home at 10:20 a.m. Monday after a week of illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Oconee County, daughter of the late Joel and Nancy Dodd Smith. Her husband died in 1949. She was a member of Westminster Baptist Church and the Stribling Sunday School Class.
Surviving are three sons, W. C. Boggs of Charlotte, North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia, Glenn Boggs of Greenville and Otis Boggs of Westminster; three daughters, Mrs. O. G. Craft of Seneca, Mrs. G. P. Reid of Greenville and Mrs. E. L. Oxner of Newberry; three sisters, Mrs. Sadie Worley and Mrs. Iness Roache, both of Seneca, and Mrs. Addie Graham of Westminster; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westminster Baptist Church by Rev. Willie S. Cromer. Burial will be in Coneross Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Oxner, David Boggs, Jack Reid, Jimmy Eskridge, Clint Smith, Horace Worley, D. S. Smith and Jimmy Boggs.
The body is at Sandifer Funeral Home and will be taken to the home, 325 West Windsor Street, at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
