Seburn "Smokey" O. Eubanks passed away on May 26, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on June 26, 1934 in Oswalt, Oklahoma to Charley and Eunice (Gossage) Eubanks.
Mr. Eubanks was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Helen Hutson Eubanks; sister, Carrie Mae Wilcoxson; and brothers, little Jack and Bob Eubanks.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Charlene McAllister (Bob); his daughter, Lacreeda Eubanks; son, John Eubanks; and granddaughters, Alicia Guerrero and Elaine Eubanks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Smokey dedicated his life to serving his country and his community.
He joined the Air Force in 1954 and retired as a Master Sergeant 20 years later. He then helped mold the minds of the next generation, teaching English in school. His favorite grade to teach was 6th graders.
He also taught English at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) at Lackland Air Force Base until retirement.
Church was important to Smokey and he served in many capacities during his life, and was a member of the choir. While stationed in Colorado Springs in the 1960s, he was ordained a Deacon.
In his retirement, Smokey loved to spend time with his family. He loved the guitar, even taught his granddaughters how to play, and loved to sing. He had taught himself to play guitar by ear as a young man, but during retirement took formal lessons in classical guitar, piano, and voice.
He will always be remembered as a Christian, a family man, an educator, outgoing he never met a stranger, a guitar picker and singer with a love for Bluegrass and Gospel, a fondness for westerns, cowboy hats and boots, an extraordinary BBQ sauce maker, and quick with a pun or joke.
