D.V. Cockburn, 85, of Wister, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Poteau. He was born Oct. 10, 1917 at Cedar Creek, Ark. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Wister, and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He lived the majority of his life in LeFlore County.

Survivors include his wife Louise of the home; three sons, Desmond V. Cockburn II of Okmulgee, Tommy Leon Cockburn of Panola and Bobby Joe Cockburn of Wister; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 at Bethel Baptist Church in Wister with the Rev. Clyde Steelman officiating. Burial will follow in Wister City Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Pallbearers will be Scott Shadwick, Bud Morgan, Cliff Morgan, Steve Walden, Ricky Crane and Rocky Crane.
