Alton Harris Carter, age 79, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 in Rome, Georgia. Alton was born on August 11, 1941 to the late Floyd Carter and Opal Dovers Carter in Allatoona, Alabama.

Alton was a devout Christian. He gave his life to the Lord as a young child and remained faithful to God for the rest of his life. Alton was ordained as a minister of The Church of God of the Union Assembly at an early age in 1964 for the next fifty-seven years. He held his relationship with the Lord close to his heart. When Alton was a teenager, he met the love of his life, Mrs. Dora Hyde. On December 9, 1960 they wed and remained married just shy of sixty-one years before his passing. They had an amazing marriage. Their relationship was a perfect example of showing their children how to love, be compassionate and care for your spouse. They were the perfect example of what a marriage bond should be. Alton was an incredible provider for his family. He had strong work ethics which was evident in every aspect of his life. Alton was loved by all and will be missed by everyone.

Along with his parents, Alton Carter is preceded in death by son, Ricky Carter; brothers, Ben Carter and Dub Carter; grandson, Kyle Carter; and brother-in-law, Houston Cookston.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Dora Carter; son, Paul (Leslie) Carter; daughters, Sherry (Rodney) Kennedy, Pam ( LaBron) Miller and LeeShele (J.T.) Davis; grandchildren, Dan Kennedy, Andrew Kennedy, ShaRee (Sean) Henson, Shaun Carter, Whitney (Jamie) Haygood, Alex Carter, Chelsea (Tommy) Allgood, Blake Davis, and Eillaina Davis; great grandchildren, Zayda Carter, Weston Kennedy, Kendall Haygood, Charlie Carter, Liam Allgood, Lylah Henson, and Gabriel Haygood; sisters, JamieLou Wilhelm and Carolyn Cookston; brother-in-law, Roy Wilhelm; sister-in-law, Louise Carter; and many extended family members and friends.

A funeral service for Mr. Alton Harris Carter will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home at two o'clock in the afternoon. The family will receive friends for visitation three hours prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at Church of God Union Assembly Cemetery in Cartersville, GA immediately following the service. Pallbearers; Dan Kennedy, Andrew Kennedy, Shaun Carter. Alex Carter, Blake Davis, Tommy Allgood, Sean Henson, and Tommy Henson.
