Mrs. Lawson's funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Stokesdale United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Ed McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at noon until the time of the service.
A Guilford County native, Evon was born on October 31, 1941 the daughter of the late Thomas and Algy Lester Case. She was an active member of Stokesdale United Methodist Church and the Leon Southard Sunday School class. In her spare time, she enjoyed flower gardening, playing cards and pulling for her Carolina Tar Heel basketball team. In her eyes, there was only one blue; Carolina. In 1958 she played on the County Championship basketball team. On June 9, 1960 she married Mitchael R. Lawson and together they shared nearly 61 years.
Evon was retired from Guilford County Schools where she served as a teaching assistant at Laughlin Elementary School in Summerfield for some 25 years. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine Pugh.
Surviving are her husband, Mitchael R. Lawson of the home; children Mitchael Lawson, Jr. (Kim) of Stokesdale, Michelle Southard (Michael) of Reidsville and Jason Lawson also of Stokesdale; a brother David Case (Patsy) of Cary; 4 grandchildren Beth Ann Durham (Barry), Sierra Mitchell (Andrew), Briana Lawson, and Mykah Southard ; 2 great grandchildren Austin Lee Durham and Kinsley Ann Grace Durham.
