Karen Berger Hare passed away peacefully on May 19, 2021 at the age of 78. Karen was born in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Max and Rose Berger. Karen was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill, who passed away on the 26th of April, 2021.

Bill and Karen both held jobs in public service.  As a policeman and teacher respectively, they lived the slogan "yours, mine, ours and theirs" every day.  If you were lucky enough to fall into one of these categories, you knew you were loved. Together they raised a houseful of kids and she enjoyed any time spent with her hoard of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Karen was proud to have retired from the Houston Independent School District as a teacher for many years and was still in contact with children she taught in elementary school. It was not unusual for her to receive either a college graduation or wedding invitation from past students. Her idea was "If I only help one, I have made a difference".  Out of the house that Bill and Karen built themselves they housed, fed, and supported any human or animal that needed it.  You could always look to Karen for help in any matter, and there was rarely a time when she wasn't tutoring, mentoring, feeding or simply being there for someone.

She was involved in many organizations; from Girl Scouts, Baseball/Softball Concession Stand, PTA, Pearland High School Band, 4-H Leader to Friends of the Library she was always willing to give the one thing most people won't, her time.  If you knew her, you knew she had her hands in just about everything and loved volunteering.  If there was a cause to be had, Karen would champion the undertaking with the same unwavering conviction she brought to everything.

Her kids also knew that no matter what they did, they could look up and know she was there cheering them on (often rather loudly).

Karen spent many years as an active member of the Houston Gunners Football team. She and Bill served this organization faithfully for a number of years. They became family to both of them and she loved "Her Boys". This organization and the people they met along the way always held a special place in her heart.

With all of the things she loved in life, her greatest love was her husband Bill. These two were made for each other and loved to travel together and with friends.  Even after 56 years of marriage, their deep respect for one another never wavered. They were true partners in life and Bill's recent passage broke her heart.

I would like to give special thanks to the staff at both Colonial Oaks Assisted Living and Amed Hospice.  Their care and respect for both Bill and Karen truly eased the last years of their lives with their exceptional care.

The service celebrating her life will be held at Peevey Funeral Home Thursday, May 27, at 11:00am., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park.
