Jess 'Junior' Amalong 1920-2004

Jess 'Junior' Amalong, of the Turkey Creek area, died Jan. 10, 2004 in Tucson at the age of 83.

He was born near Dos Cabezas on May 10, 1920 to Jesse Eugene and Ruby Evelyn (Stafford) Amalong.

Junior served in the U.S. Army during WW II, where he also was a POW. He was a lifelong resident of Arizona and was a cattle rancher and a miner for Phelps Dodge.

Survivors include his son, David (Donna) of Turkey Creek; his sisters Noama Moore of Sasabe, and Ruth Hambelton of Tucson.

Preceding him in death was his wife Shirley Smith Amalong and his parents.

Memorial graveside services were held Saturday, Jan. 17, beginning at 3 p.m. at the El Dorado Cemetery. Cremation was conducted at Westlawn Crematorium.

Services were under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox."
