David was born October 8, 1946, in Kewanee, Illinois to George Fell, Jr, and Sarah (Ault). He was reared and educated in the Altona/Oneida area, graduating from ROWVA in 1964. He married Brenda Sims Bethell on May 9, 1980. She survives.
David was an Operating Engineer for over 50 years, working out of Local 150. He loved to hunt and fish, fishing in Alaska and Los Cabos, Mexico with his son Chad and trips to Minnesota and Canada with Brenda and grandson Sam. He watched all sports but especially "da Bears" and the Cubs, and of course all things Illini. He also loved to travel and after retiring he visited Alaska again, Hawaii, Ireland, and a cousin trip to Scotland, the home of the Fell family. In 2015 he purchased a fifth-wheel RV, spending several winters in Texas, traveling west to Utah, Montana, Colorado, and east to many civil war sites, as well as a trip to Niagara Falls, Quebec, and Nova Scotia, Canada.
Survivors include a son Chad Fell, daughters Karen Hofmeister and Krista (Brooks) Tobey, all of Kennesaw, Georgia, stepdaughters Amy (Jim) Nelson of Verona, Missouri, Katy (Rob) Egger of Moline, Illinois, a sister Sally Allen of The Villages, Florida, a brother James Fell of Alpha, sister-in-law Virginia Fell of Galesburg, 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Fell, brother-in-law Jack Allen and grandson Sam Egger.
Visitation is scheduled for 10:00-11:00 am Friday, May 21, 2021at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am at The Chapel with Pastor Martha Jean Fitch officiating. The burial will be in Alexis Cemetery.
