FAIRMONT -Services for Dorothy M. Ells, 99, of Fairmont will be held at a later date. Dorothy passed away peacefully on July 20, 2012, at Goldfinch Memory Care in Fairmont, surrounded by loving family.
Dorothy Mabel (Peppard) Ells was born on June 9, 1913, in Kankakee, Ill. She was the daughter of Edward and Mabel (Leach) Peppard. Soon after she was born, the family moved to Emmet County, Iowa, where Dorothy spent her childhood. She graduated from Ringsted High School in 1930.
On October 23, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Lawrence Ells in Fairmont. The couple made their home in Fairmont until moving to Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1968. They returned to Fairmont in 1981. Dorothy and Larry shared over 50 years together before he passed away in 1996.
Dorothy was an avid writer of novels, short stories and magazine articles. She took continuing education in creative writing and had published her book entitled "Henry Brockhouse, Safari Hunter." She was a Past President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Siouxland Creative Writers of Sioux Falls, S.D.
Left to cherish her memory include her son, Jay Ells of New York, N.Y.; granddaughters, Jodi Libey and her husband, Bruce, of Duluth, Minn., and Lori Ells and her husband, Steve Sobtzak, of Mahtomedi, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Trevor Sobtzak, Chelsea Sobtzak, and Nicole Libey; other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her husband, Larry Ells; and son, Dr. Edward Ells.
