He was retired after 35 years at Emerson Electric, where he was a supervisor. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, where he was a church choir member for 58 years, in addition to membership in the Holy Cross Men's Club. He was a former Church Council member and the past Commander of Collinsville's American Legion Post #365, as well as a member of VFW #5691 in Collinsville. He was a World War II Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph O. and Frances C., nee Funk, Allen; and a brother, Joseph Allen Jr.
Surviving are his wife, Mary, nee Schmidt, Allen; two daughters, Mrs. Rev. Stephen (Carolee) Grumm of Albany, Oregon and Mrs. Rev. Joseph (Mary Jo) Marsh of Antigo, Wisconsin; a brother, Charles Allen of Altamont, Illinois; a sister, Catherin Irvin of La Grange, Illinois; four grandsons, Matthew and Tyson Grumm, Allen and Patrick Marsh; a granddaughter, Amy Marsh; numerous nieces and nephews.
