Francis Patzschke Mattern was the daughter of Frank and Henrietta Salbe Patzschke. She was born in what is now Wheeling, W.V.
She married Adam Mattern in Cook County in Oct 1875. They had six children, only three grew to adulthood: Elizabeth Mattern Rohde, Walter Mattern, and Lillian Mattern Wilkins.
Sometime after Lillian was born in 1887 and 1900, Francis divorced Adam and moved with her three childen to Coral. She farmed in the Coral Township area until old age, when she moved to Hampshire and lived with her son Walter until her passing.
During the summer months, on her farm, she took care of her three grandchildren, the two daughters and one son of Elizabeth Mattern Rohde and William Rohde.
She was muched loved by these three grandchildren.
