Note: I checked both years 1884 and 1888. I didn't find her in the SSDI or in the Joplin newspapers.

The newspaper searches often don't find them when they are there, and sometimes the newspaper pages are missing or bad.

Someday, someone may find her while looking for someone else, and .... Here she is, while looking for Johnson, I found a Morton. Since she wasn't in the cemetery, I added her.

Mable Morton
GALENA, Kan. --- Mable I. Morton, 82, formerly of Galena, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday at a Peabody nursing home where she had been a patient since 1982.

Mrs. Morton was born March 12, 1901, in Galena, and had resided in the area since 1952. She was a housewife and a member of the Assembly of God Church at Newton.

Surviving are two sons, Willard Wyren and Robert Wyren, both of Wyandotte, Okla.; a daughter, Mrs. Francis Wells, Walton; a sister, Mrs. Stella Ryan, Summit, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. at Derfelt Funeral Home, with Dr. John Eller offciating [sic]. Burial will be in Hillcrest [Hill Crest] Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Harley Wells, Noah Wells, Don Wells, Rick Wells, Chuck Wells and Earl Vaughn.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mabel's first husband's first/middle name was Mathias Wyren--"Tice" Wyren.

In the Montana marriage certificate for Robert E. Wyren, his dad was recorded as Mathias Wyren and his mother as Mabel Fichtner. Robert was born in Galena, had been divorced and was marrying Agnes Thomson, who was single, first marriage, married August 27, 1951.

For another child this was recorded:
Mathias Wyren, Spouse Mabel Ficthner, with child being Frances Evaleen Lyerla.

I assume that's what the "I" is for on her headstone. She is the mother-in-law of my 1st cousin 1x removed.
