Charles Gillespie, 80, passed away November 2, 2007, at The Toledo Hospital. A native of Starkville, MS, he lived in Toledo since 1947. He was a 55 year member of Friendship Baptist Church where he attended bible study and worked with the Security Team.

A truck driver and member of the Teamsters, he worked for Commercial Lovelace and O.J. Transport out of Detroit, MI for 25+ years.He retired in the year 2000. Aside from serving his church, which he loved, he was the holder of a special steak and BBQ marinade, whose ingredients have gone forever with him.

One of 14 children, he is preceded by 10 siblings and his wife, Opal Johnson Gillespie.

He leaves to cherish his memory daughter Charlene K. Gillespie Miller; son, John C. Gillespie; step daughter, Carmella (Roger) King of Louisville, KY; stepson, Van (Laura) Johnson; granddaughters, Kaylene Miller and C'Shareese Gillespie-Parker; grandson, Christopher Milburn. stepgrandchildren, Andrew and Donavon King; brother, James (Betty) Gillespie of Ogden, Utah; 2 sisters, Clide T. Bardwell of Memphis, TN and Susie (Perry) Smith of Gretna, LA; special son, Kevin Fox and longtime friend and neighbor, Clyde Tisdale, the Friendship Church Family and many friends.

Visitation will be Thursday 4 - 7 p.m. Dale-Riggs Funeral Home Chapel. Wake services Friday 11:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 12:00 noon, Friendship Baptist Church, Bishop Duane C. Tisdale, Pastor and Officiant. Interment Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
