Mary Jane "Mollie" Leonard was the daughter of Abram Leonard and Margaret Leonard. He was the brother of Archibald Leonard, one of the founders of Fort Worth, Texas (buried in Birdville Cemetery). Abram and family came to Tarrant Co in the late 1850s from Pennsylvania (Clearfield Co.). Abram ran the Leonard Mill until it burned after the Civil War. They then returned to Missouri. Levi and William, his sons, stayed. Mollie Hallford had eloped with John Harrison Hallford on April 11, 1860, which hurt her family. Because of the parents refusal to accept her husband, she lost communications after the Leonards went back to Missouri. They invited her to come and bring John before they left but she never did, feeling they only asked John as an afterthought.

They had ten children and lived in Tarrant County, Hays County, Travis County, and Comanche County (all Texas) during their marriage.

In 1902, her husband went to Greer County, Texas(now Oklahoma), where two of their sons lived, to help with the cotton picking. He died unexpectedly there and was buried in Blair. His gravestone was vandalized and is missing.

Mollie then broke up housekeeping and lived with each of her children for a month at a time and they each contributed $20 a month to her care. She was living in Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1920 with son Andrew Jasper Hallford when she died.

Family stories tell that she had a bit of a Dutch accent and was a very hard worker and critical of women in the family that didn't help with the farm work.
