Early Life: James was born November 23, 1927, to Frank Forrest and Elma Hinton Cole, in Nephi, Utah, where he was also raised. He was one of 13 children. James graduated from Juab High School in 1946. He loved playing basketball and played on the varsity team during his senior year.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: Following high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for 14 months in Korea. He used his GI bill to take flying lessons and received his pilots license. James met his eternal sweetheart, Joan, in Santaquin, Utah; they were married on December 23, 1950, and recently celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. James was employed by Firestone Tire Company for over 40 years. After he retired, he and Joan served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 1996, in Washington DC North Mission where they made many eternal friendships. He loved to fish, beat whitey (play golf) , hunt, and every year he got his deer. Throughout his life, he had the companionship of several dogs and loved them all. James was faithful in his church callings and he and Joan served in the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple for eight years. James Elwin Cole, beloved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and friend, passed away Monday, May 10, 2021, at his home in Orem, Utah. He was 93.
Family Message: "We feel very blessed to have him in our lives and he will be deeply missed. We look forward to the day we will be reunited with him. We love you dad!"
Survived By: His wife, Joan; four children: Stan, Channa (Rich), Dianne (Alan), and Mike; 21 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren.
Preceded In Death By: His parents; at least two siblings; granddaughter, Megan; and great-grandson, Chance.
