Death of Civil War Veteran
Charles A. Chase died very suddenly, Wednesday night, at his home, 34 Lancaster street.
He was a native of this town, born here Jan 1, 1826. He was a Civil War veteran, having enlisted May 23, 1861, as a musician, and was attached to the 1st regiment, Mass, Vol. He was promoted to the rank of principal musician, but was discharged July 27, 1862, when by an act of congress all regimental bands were discharged. He was a member of Charles H. Stevens Post 51, G.A.R. having joined in 1889.
Like all the Chase and Tisdale families the deceased was a great lover of music and a man who had made a study of it and who appreciated all that was good in the musical line. He was a comb maker by trade and was superintendent of a department of the E. B. Kingman factory. He was a member of Wilder Lodge, A. F. and A. M. , and a constant attendant at its mee tings. He has also been a member of the board of registrars. He leaves a widow and two daughters, Miss Emma Chase and Mrs. Serieno Douglas.
