He was a graduate of Lexington High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed at Norfolk Southern Railway Company.
Surviving are his wife, Loretta N. Lewis; two sons, Lamont Lewis and Walter E. Lewis IV, all of Roanoke; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Lewis Jr., Lexington; one uncle; 12 aunts; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Friends may call at the residence 1517 Lonna Dr., N.W., Roanoke or 211 Diamond Street, Lexington at any time. Funeral service will be held Tuesday 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lexington with the Rev. James B. Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. J.B. Lewis Funeral Service, Lexington is handling the arrangements.
