Entered The Service from New York 15 Dec 1941. Combat Organization, 436th Bomber Squadron, 7th Bomber Group, Heavy. US Awarded him the PURPLE HEART MEDAL. He enlisted immediately after Pearl harbor, signing up with the Army Air Force. he trained as a radio operator at Scott Field, Ill. and learned so rapidly that he was shipped out in September, unable to come home on furlough. In the meantime he had added gunnery to his accomplishments and earned his silver wings at El Pasco, Texas. Sergeant Eugene Gladd was killed in action while serving as a radio operator and gunner aboard a bomber somewhere in the Asiatic area.
Son of Franklin Gladd and Frances Cassidy both from New York. He was one of 5 brothers, Robert, Edmund, Harold and Warren. He was married to Janet Wilson in 1934 and divorced in 1939, They had a child together,Janet Gladd Klein. He was orignally buried at Barrakpore, India, at the Barrakpore Cemetery until his body was moved to Hawaii in 1949,
