Maggie Scholten Obituary

Magdalene "Maggie" Scholten, age 91, was called home to her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 10, 2021. Maggie is remembered for her servant's heart and being strong and compassionate with just a touch of stubbornness.

Maggie was born January 22, 1930 in Manhattan, Montana to parents Jerry and Sophia (Bakker) Weidenaar Sr. At age 16 the family moved to the Lynden area where she began working at the Lynden Department Store. It was there she gave a handsome young man, John Scholten, a good deal on oranges. They were later married May 6, 1949.

Maggie and John had a dairy farm, a couple years on Stickney Island Road then on to the Van Buren Rd. for many years. She was a true farmer's wife helping feed calves and doing many other chores. She also was an avid gardener.

Maggie cared for her son Dean for 22 years, operating his dialysis machine in their home for 8 years.

Maggie enjoyed needlepoint. She was a wonderful baker making cookies for church events and many activities. She was very involved with the Gideons, Ladies Aid and Bible study groups at First Christian Reformed Church.
