Mrs. Doris D. Newkirk, 91, of Clizbe Avenue, Amsterdam, NY died peacefully on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Albany Medical Center.

Born in Amsterdam on October 24, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Bessie Snyder Dopp.

A lifelong area resident, Doris was educated locally and was a homemaker most of her life.

She was a former member of the Fort Hunter United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed a lifetime of sewing, gardening and crafts.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Her family includes her children, Judith Vogel and her husband Larry of Fort Johnson, NY, Claudia Joubert of Amsterdam, NY and Alan M. Newkirk and his wife Marlene of Beverly Hills, FL; several grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; three sisters, Gladys Patterson of Amsterdam, NY, Marilyn Politano and her husband Frank of Kirkville, NY, and Barbara Bramer and her husband Edward of Amsterdam, NY; her father's widow, Mary Dopp of Amsterdam; two sisters in law, Arlene Hodges and Edna Larocco; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Harry G. Newkirk; three sisters, Sylvia Baker, Virginia Muselbeck and Geraldine Furman; and four brothers, Lawrence, Donald, Gerald and Harold Dopp.
