Emaline was the child of Mary "Poppie" Weatherman (1830-1910) and William Harvey Wise (1832-1903). Her fathers identity was established using DNA research. Her mother married William Burleson (1835-1923) and Emaline was given his last name. Emaline never married. She had seven children:

Asa "Ace" Sylvester Burleson (1874-1944)
Joseph Gaither "Jules" Burleson (1880-1960)
Possible Dulcia? Burleson or Hughes (1892?-1899 when she was killed in a fire)
John Edwin Burleson (1887-1934)
Stephen G Burleson (1890-1977)
Aaron Clark Burleson (1892-1969)
Jencie Malandy Burleson (1895-1972)

She is in front of her son John Burleson and his wife, Etta Love Burleson. Two other children are buried in close proximity: Jencie and Jule. Asa is buried at Pendley Cemetery in Spruce Pine, Mitchell County
