NOLAN CORNETT
Services for Nolan Cornett, 64 of Brownfield, will be held Wednesday, September 27th at 4:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church.

Mr. Cornett will be laid to rest in Terry County Memorial Cemetery. He passed away September 25th after a lengthy illness.

Mr Cornett was born April 6, 1936, in Lamesa, to J.A. and Gertrude Cornett. He was the youngest of ten children. He moved to Terry County in 1946 and graduated from Union High School in 1954. He attended Draughon’s Business College of Lubbock in 1954-55.

He married Carol Ann Garner on September 8, in Union.
Mr. Cornett began a long career as the shoeman,” as he was affectionately known, in 1956 when he went to work at Fenton’s Shoe Store in Brownfield. He later joined Collins Department Stores in 1959 and worked in Brownfield and Lamesa for 38 years. Many families depended on him to fit their children with shoes over the years. After Collins, he joined Dillard’s in Lubbock and worked there for one and a half years until illness forced his retirement.

Mr. Cornett ws a member of First Baptist Church and a past member of the Optimist Club, where served as president in 1974-75, He was also active in the Boy Scouts of America during his son’s growing years. He was an Indian artifact enthusiast and a leaded stained glass artist.
Mr Cornett is survived by his wife, Carol; his two sons, Matthew, of Brownfield and Douglas, of Lubbock; his daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Glen Green, of Brownfield; and four grandchildren, Justin Green, of Levelland, Jon and Sommer Green, of Brownfield and Tanner Cornett Daniel, of Fort Stockton.

He is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, A.B. and Virginia Cornett, of Brownfield, Wyane and Bea Cornett of Midland and Paul and Barbara Cornett, of San Angelo; his sister and brother-in-law Doris and Claude Ledbetter, of Eldorado; and his sister Sylvia Pruitt, of Lamesa.

Mr. Cornett is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Barney, Al, Jack and Bill.

Pallbearers for the service will include J.W. Faught, Jay Howell, Graham Swain, Mike Swain, James Leavelle, Odis Boring, Mack Shannon, and Rod Bearden. Honorary Pallbearers are J.K. Bell, Gene Thackery, Richard Collins, Walter Smith, Jr., Edgar Self and James Evans.

The family suggests memorial to the Brownfield Optimist Club Baseball League, P.O.E. Box 1062, c/o Bob Brewer, Brownfield, of the American Cancer Society.
