John Michael Lonergan, 87, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. John, a native of London, England, had been a resident of Dallas for approximately forty years prior to his death. Prior to that time he lived in numerous places within the United States as well as around the world. John was born on November 24, 1933 in London, England.

His parents were John Edward Lonergan and Dorothy May Felstead. John was a child in London during the Blitz of London occurring during World War II.

He is a graduate of the University of Kent, Canterbury. He later served in the British Army. John was married four times: to Stella Hall; Patricia Punter; and Elizabeth Murchison. He married his wife Gaylene Rogers of Dallas, Texas on April 23, 1994 in Dallas, Texas. John was truly a man of many talents. During his lifetime, he played professional football (soccer) for a number of football clubs; ran a number of his own businesses; boxed while in the British Army; taught secondary school; coached football (soccer) semi-professionally while in England and later coached youth select soccer in Dallas, Texas. His last coaching position was with the Longhorn Soccer Club in Dallas.

John had a personality that naturally drew people to him as he was always young at heart and quite gregarious. There was never a dull moment when you were with him.

John loved football (soccer) and was alifelong fan of the Arsenal Football Club. John loved to work New York Times crossword puzzles and to constantly redecorate his and Gaylene's home. Later in life he enjoyed being a stay at home Dad to his daughter, who was born to him at the age of sixty-five, and shepherding her to all of her after school activities.

John is survived by his wife, Gaylene Rogers Lonergan of Dallas; son and daughter-in-law Dean John Lonergan and Jan Swift Lonergan of London, England; daughter, Julie Maria Lonergan, also of London; daughter Gwyneth Rogers Lonergan of Dallas, Texas; brother and sister-inlaw, Reginald Lonergan and Angela Lonergan of Swindon, England; grandchildren, Kevin Paul Jessup, Grant Lonergan Jessup, Shelby Ann Lonergan and Jack Dean Lonergan Holloway, all of England; seven great-grandchildren; niece and nephew, Ashley Lonergan and Joanna Lonergan, of Swindon, England and many friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Lonergan in 2017. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Faith Presbyterian T. Boone Pickens Hospice Center Chapel at 12471 Merit Drive, Dallas, Texas 75251.
