Thomas Pitts was the son of Samuel and Sahra Pitts
Manufactures of Lumber (Lumber Baron). m. Louise. had several children. Also had property on Lake Shore in Grosse Pointe.
Thomas Pitts was educated at Andover, Massachusetts. Afterwards, he went into business with his father. Mr. Pitts was a member of the GAR. Like his father, Thomas achieved wealth in lumber, and became a leader in civic and cultural circles. Under his presidency of the Detroit Museum of Art, from 1904 to 1906, ground was broken for an addition which almost doubled the capacity of the museum. His son and daughter were encouraged to take an interest in art, and were sent to Europe for their education. Mr. Pitts died suddenly in Pittsfield, MA, in route home following a visit to his daughter in Gloucester.
His sister married Justice Henry Billings Brown also buried Elmwood Cemetery.
