Shirley Anne Gibbs was born April 25, 1937 in Wheelwright, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Ted and Rose Jones Osborne. She was united in marriage to James A. Gibbs who survives. She is also survived by three children, Roger Gibbs and wife Teressa of London, Gary Gibbs and wife Debbie of Goshen, Kentucky, and Luther Gibbs and wife Tami of Saint Marys, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Alisha Sanford and husband Joseph, Kyle Gibbs and wife Leighanna, Jacob Gibbs and wife Alexandra, James Gibbs, Hannah Gibbs, Duncan Gibbs and Miranda, and Hadley Gibbs; three great-grandchildren, Egan Gibbs, Camilla Gibbs, and Tristen Gibbs; plus a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by four siblings, James Osborne, Mildred Anderson, Madeline Ward, and Martha Julaphongs.

Shirley was a Berea College graduate and received her doctorate from Oklahoma State University. She was a college professor at Western Kentucky University for 19 years, and was a member of Saint Helena Baptist Church in Beaufort, South Carolina.
