Goldie Alice Koehn was born on January 10, 1912, to John and Lena Buller Becker, at Goltry, Oklahoma. She died on August 1, 2001, in the Mercy Hospital, Moundridge, Kansas. She reached the age of eighty-nine years.
When she was about one year old, she moved with her parents to the McPherson County, Kansas, area where she spent her childhood. Later, when she was sixteen, they moved to the Halstead, Kansas, community and were members of the Grace Congregation.
At the age of thirteen, she heard the call of the Lord and was converted. She was baptized on January 25, 1925, by Min. Hiram Mininger, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. She loved the Lord and was faithful to Him and to the Church as long as she lived. Mother was contented with a life of simplicity.
Mother was united in marriage to Albert Koehn on August 16, 1931, at Halstead, Kansas. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for fifty-six years. To this union were born five sons and three daughters. After their marriage, they lived in the Halstead, Kansas, area until 1940, with the exception of about one year at Fredonia, Kansas. From Halstead, they moved with their family to Summerdale, Alabama, where they lived until 1947. From there, they moved to DeRidder, Louisiana. In 1968, they moved to Leland, Mississippi.
On July 11, 1987, Dad passed away, leaving Mother very lonely. In 1995, she went to Halstead, Kansas, to live with her children, Kenneth and Virginia Holdeman. She became a resident of the Moundridge Manor, Moundridge, Kansas in 1997. Her cheerfulness and quiet spirit were an inspiration to the residents, employees, and all who met her there.
Those left to cherish her memory are five sons and their wives: Virgil and Thelma, LeRoy and Alene, Glenn and Jackie, David and Rovena, all of Leland, Mississippi; and Don and Myrtle, Hardinsburg, Indiana; two daughters and their husbands: Virginia and Kenneth Holdeman, Halstead, Kansas, and Dorothy and Robert Ratzloff, Hardinsburg, Indiana; a brother, Lewie Becker, Moundridge, Kansas, and a sister, Violet, Mrs. Howard Koehn, Burns, Kansas; twenty-eight grandchildren and sixty-seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter, three infant great-grandsons, her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services were held on Agusut 6, 2001, at the Leland Mennonite Church, Leland, Mississippi. Ministers Ben Giesbrecht, Weldon Koehn, and Michael Koehn officiated. Burial was in the Leland Mennonite Church Cemetery, Leland, Mississippi.
