Joe Calvin Austin, age eighty-three, died Thursday, April 29, 2021, at home in Buncombe County, North Carolina.

Joe was born March 29, 1938, to the late Stella Case Austin and Joseph Burgin Austin in Asheville, North Carolina. He enjoyed taking walks, watching westerns, and eating out. A hard worker in his life, he was retired, a camper, and loved driving with the top down through the mountains of The Blue Ridge Parkway with his girlfriend, Iris Pierson. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He will be missed.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Austin; daughters Joanne McKinney, Carolyn Austin and Paula Sowers; and a great-granddaughter, Caiyalynn Burell.

Surviving Joe are children Brenda Austin Plumley of Marshall, North Carolina, and Michael Joe Austin (Lisa Austin) of South Carolina; fourteen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and some great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
