Royalty. She was Queen Consort of the Kingdom of Portugal as the second wife of King Afonso V, her uncle. She was also a claimant to the throne of Castile.

Her enemies insultingly nicknamed her "La Beltraneja" due to the claims that she was not daughter of King Henry IV, but of Beltrán de la Cueva, alleged lover of her mother, Queen Joana.

She was buried in the Monastery of Santa Clara in Lisbon, in a grave next to the chapter room, although in her will she asked to be buried in the Convent of Santo António do Varatojo, with the habit of Saint Francis. The Monastery of Santa Clara was destroyed during the Lisbon Earthquake of 1 November 1755 and her remains lost or destroyed.
