Growing up Jeff attended Merrick Country School District 21 and later graduated from Central City High School in 1967. He moved to Lincoln where he attended and graduated from Barber College in 1968. In 1970 Jeff joined the Nebraska Army National Guard, later that year he joined the Lincoln Police force. After 31 years of service, he retired from the Lincoln Police Department and went to work at Lincoln Airport Authority. Throughout his life he worked at Legacy Retirement Center, security at St. Elizabeth hospital, and the Youth Services Center.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Erin (Janis) Treijs, Sara (Jake) McMahan, Jeffrey Butt Jr., step-children Mike Passehl, Joshua (Anna) Bodfield, Jenny Bodfield; and grandchildren, Caleb, Ethan Kyes, Elayna McMahan, Eva, Ella, Ineta Treijs, Blake, Zoey, Eli, Jonah, Nolan Butt, Heather, Hannah Gravely, Lucy Bodfield; his sister and brother-in-law, Judy (Butt) and Larry Munn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Alvera Butt; and a younger brother, Bruce Butt.
