Bailey Hilton Degan passed away on April 27, 2021, at the tender age of 19. A fiercely independent spirit, she will be remembered for her contagious laughter, individualistic, free-thought, and her deep concern and caring for her friends. Whether hang-gliding off a Tennessee mountain with her father, joyfully attending music festivals with her mother or traveling to Asia with her classmates, she expressed a fearless desire to understand, experience, and appreciate all the beauty and diversity that life could offer. Bailey graduated from Hutchison School in 2020, where she studied Chinese, played on the Junior Varsity and Memphis Metro Volleyball teams, and delighted in her art classes. She cherished all forms of artistic self-expression, and was an avid lover of painting, photography, and poetry. As a sophomore at Hutchison, she won first place in the International Art Contest at University of Memphis for her unique version of a Chinese dragon. To this day, her room remains scattered with paint supplies, pen and ink drawings, and poetry books marked with highlighted passages and exclamation marks. She loved to dance to electronic dance music and curate her own playlists on Spotify. Upon her untimely death, she was pursuing her studies at the University of Memphis in Political Science, with an interest in Law as a vocation.

Bailey was the much-beloved daughter of Reginald and Suzanne Degan, devoted sister to Caleb and Connor Degan, and adored granddaughter of Mary Sweatt Degan and Johnny Hilton Burns. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Roy Elwood Degan, Jr., and her maternal grandmother, Donna Womble Burns.

Bailey was baptized in 2013 at First Baptist Church In West Memphis, AR at the age of 12, and we find grace and comfort knowing that she entered the Kingdom of God, and was certainly greeted with tenderness by her family and Savior. Above all, Bailey was deeply loved.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 11:00 am until the time of the Celebration of Life service at 1:00 pm at Memorial Park Funeral
Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis.
