"George H. Ackerman, eighty, 347 W. King St., died suddenly in his home at 11 o'clock last night as the results of a heart disease. Retiring some years ago after operating a tinsmith business and later a grocery store, he was widely known and took an active interest in church and lodge circles. Born in Lancaster, Oct 17, 1863, he was a son of the late George and Elizabeth Ackerman. Early in life he conducted a tinsmith business and later a grocery store. He took an active interest in Monterey Lodge, No. 242, IOOF, for 60 years and also was a member and former Treasurer of Union Fire Co. No. 1. He was an active member of Christ Evangelical and Lutheran church and a member of the church school since its organization in 1867. He served in most of the important offices and on committees of the church council for 44 years and was a member of the choir for 50 years. He also was a delegate to a number of conferences and meetings of the Lutheran church. He is survived by two daughters and one son, Elizabeth, wife of William E. Morton, this city; Helen, wife of Jacob S. Posey, near Willow Street, and Howard, at home. Three grandchildren Helen Morton Trost, Walter Posey and Jean Posey, also survive."
