Shirley Mitchell, age 84, of Dayton, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family. Shirley was born in Fleming County, Kentucky, Aug. 13, 1936, to the late George W. and Jessie (Jolly) Mitchell. He is preceded in death by all seven of his siblings, Marvin, Frances, Dorothy, Bobby, Warner, George, and his twin sister Charlotte. Shirley is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Earline (Allen) Mitchell, and his daughter, Jeaneen (Jim), granddaughter, Emily (Bryan), great grandchildren Jackson, Claire and Shelby, and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley enjoyed playing golf at Jamaica Run, where he scored a hole-in-one, and became a ranger there after retiring from General Motors. He was a self-taught piano and guitar player, and performed as part of the musical group at Dayspring Ministries Church in Beavercreek for many years. Shirley was a hard-working, kind and gentle man who could fix anything, build anything, remember everything, and always had a corny joke at the ready. He loved children and took treats to church every Sunday for the kids and never missed an opportunity to spoil his great grandchildren with ice cream after school.

Shirley will be greatly missed, but would not want us to dwell on his passing. He would want us to rejoice that he is with his heavenly father and prepare our hearts to join him someday.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 3, 2021 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions – Beavercreek Chapel (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place Woodland Cemetery, Dayton.
