In the 1850 census for Sevier Co., TN., Caleb was living with his oldest sister Elizabeth Thurman who married Jesse Stafford. Caleb was a minor orphan of Barnabas and Sarah at the time of there death. Jesse was his court appointed guardian. Court records show that Elizabeth was Barnabas's daughter and was married to Jesse Stafford. Note: there is no absolute proof that Caleb is Barabas's son but the strong circumstantial evidence makes the case.
