Alex E. Jones, 68, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 8:31 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at his residence.
He was born on October 25, 1952, in Morton, Mississippi, to Henry T. and Adis W. (Ryals) Jones. He married Rebbecca L. Lindsay on December 3, 1974, in Peoria, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Becky of Metamora; daughter, Bobbie (Nick) VanMeter of Washburn; grandchildren; mother-in-law, Shirley Lindsay of Metamora; brother, Ray (Barb) Jones of Arkansas; and in-laws, Laura Lindsay, Henry Abraham, Emerson Abraham, Peggy Revis and Kelly Abraham.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry Jones; daughter, Genenana Jones; brother, Michael Jones; father-in-law, Vernon Lindsay Sr.; and brothers-in-law, Vernon Lindsay Jr., David Lindsay and Scott Lindsay.
Alex was an assembler for Caterpillar Tractor Company at the Mossville plant. Alex loved his time with his family. He was always checking up on us, even if it was just to say hello or ask if we knew how the weather was that day or if we heard the latest news that was happening around the world. His grandchildren were his entire world. He was always on his phone, even a smartphone to be exact. He was always taking pictures of everyone together, even if they had no clue. He always would say he didn't need the smartphone, all he needed was the flip phone and he would be fine. Now he wouldn't have been able to do that, if he didn't have the smartphone his daughter finally convinced him to get after several years of trying and him complaining about them.
He loved his dog, Gypsy. They both enjoyed their time together, from watching Gypsy run crazy around the backyard chasing after squirrels to laying in his slippers after an exhausting day playing in the yard. Alex loved his cars. He sure loved his hot rods. His truck was his pride and joy. It was very rare if he let anyone other than himself drive it. It didn't matter if it was to the post office or to get gas or to move the truck closer to the house. Alex was always doing something. It didn't matter if his health wasn't doing him that well at the time, he still managed to push through and attempt to get whatever it was done. We never had to check the weather app, we just had to check Facebook and there his post was. It didn't matter if it was about when the rain would start or finish or if there was a blown transformer and the power was out. Every time snow touched the yard, he would take a picture and made sure Facebook knew!
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel. Following visitation, graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
