Bud was a 1944 graduate of Vocational High School in Syracuse. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating and served in the Pacific Theatre with the Fourth Division during WWII. Bud received his associate's degree in Engineering and Business in 1949 from the DeVry University, Chicago. Bud's first business venture was selling and servicing TV's in the 1950s and as a true entrepreneur, had a long and distinguished career in many businesses.
More important to Bud and his wife, Kathleen, was their involvement in many charities over the years. Most notable was the Charlie Brown Basketball Program that grew to service over 1,000 boys and girls per year.
He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, the former Kathleen McCarthy earlier this year and by a sister, Katie Mercurio.
Surviving are two sons, Michael A. Bennett of Syracuse and Patrick R. (Gwen) Bennett of Sherrill; a sister, Norma Weegar of Albany; his two grandsons, Patrick and Andrew Bennett.
Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A prayer service will begin at the funeral home on Saturday, 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church.
