She married Arthur Wales in Aug. 12 1917, after William Penn Dunlap died.Elizabeth Margaret Dunbar died Monday afternoon, August 20, 1923 in Rochester, MINN., where she had gone Wednesday of last week for an operation on her knee. She had gone through the clinic, which required three days and was found to be in fine condition as to heart, blood test, and other essentials. Sunday night she entered the hospital and Monday morning had two tumors removed from her knee, being on the operating table one and a half hours. She rallied satisfactorily and was thought to be in fine condition when she exclaimed, “Oh! I feel so sick, I think I am dying.” She passed away at 1:30 o’clock. Her death was entirely unexpected, and the cause was unknown to her physician. The body arrived at her home in this city Tuesday evening, accompanied by Mrs. Lola Wright who had gone with her to Rochester.
Elizabeth Margaret Dunbar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Dunbar, both deceased, was born in New York City. Her parents lived at Silver City, Nevada; but several months before her birth her mother had gone by way of Cape Horn, to visit her parents in New York. The family continued to live in Silver City until the little girl was seven years old, when they came to Walworth County, and settled on the home in Geneva which still remains in the family. When the deceased was 20 years old, while at home for a vacation from the Whitewater normal she slipped when stepping into a buggy and caused an injury to her knee which her physicians were never able to cure.
She was married in 1893 to Will Dunlap of Geneva, and they settled on the Charles Dunlap farm, where they lived until after Mr. Dunlap’s death, December 29, 1914. To them were born three children, all of whom survive. August 12, 1917, she was married to Arthur Wales, former mayor of this city; and for six years she has made a happy home for him and for his family.
The deceased is survived by her husband; the three children; Leo, of Geneva, Clifford, of Los Angeles, and Gertrude, at home; three grandchildren; and three brothers; Dr. W. E. Dunbar, Dr. S. J. Dunbar and Harry Dunbar, all of Elkhorn. A sister Maude, and a brother Walter died in recent years.
The funeral will be held at the home this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. In the absence of Rev. Frankel, the Rev. Shaefer of Lake Geneva will officiate. Interment will be in the North Geneva Cemetery.
Mrs. Wales possessed an amiable disposition and was beloved by a wide circle of friends.
