Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Bay Springs, Mississippi.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 29, 2021, at 2:30 p.m. at Bay Springs United Methodist Church in Bay Springs, Mississippi. The burial will follow in Bay Springs City Cemetery. Bro. Mrs. Sims was a member of Bay Springs United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, step-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was a graduate of Bay Springs High School and continued her Education at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she obtained her Bachelors in elementary education. She taught for three years in the Meridian School System and then seven years at Bay Springs Elementary School. After teaching she and her late husband were the owners and operators of Sim's Grocery in Antioch, Mississippi, in Jasper County, for twenty-six years. After retirement, she enjoyed caring for her friends, working and coordinating the church food pantry and Christmas Bazaar at Bay Springs United Methodist Church, cooking, and most of all spending time with her loving son and her grands. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Corbit Sims; parents Sam Sullivan and Elizabeth Abney Sullivan; one sister, Martha Florence Peterson.
Survivors include her loving son, Jim Sims and wife, Mabel, of Bay Springs; two grandsons, James Roy Sims of Hattiesburg, and Samuel Robert Sims of Louin; four step-grandchildren, Ali Doss of Bay Springs, Joe Miller of Garlandville, David Miller of Garlandville, and Rachel Miller of Dunn, NC; four step-great-grandchildren, Milly and Lula Doss of Bay Springs, and Layla and Sophie Miller of Garlandville; and a host of other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Mark Peterson, Dean Sims, Kenneth Sims, Fred Abney, Travis Abney, and Richard Abney. Honorary pallbearer will be Robert Hal Abney.
