Jacob was the son of John Jackson Risley and Mary Rodgerson.
He served his country in the Civil War as a private in Company M of the 10th Indiana Cavalry.
He was married to Sarah Ellen Clark on 26 July 1870 in Dubois Co, IN.
Ellen's died 24 March 1912 in Elnora, IN with burial listed as Risley cemetery on the Indiana death certificate.

Jacob's cemetery burial was taken from his military tombstone application made by Arthur Risley in 1937.
