Downs Funeral Home obituary:

"Patricia "Pat" Shippar, 65, of Chippewa Falls, WI passed away in peace to be with her Lord on Jan. 26, 2017 at Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale, AZ. Pat battled fearlessly, and with unwavering courage, the cancer that initially struck her in 2004.

Pat was born in Superior, WI on March 26, 1951 to Leo and Nordis (Peterson) Sanda. She married Donald Shippar on May 23, 1970 in Superior and they celebrated 45 years of marriage with their children and their spouses in 2015. Pat attended Bryant Elementary School in So. Superior and graduated from Superior Senior High School in 1969. She spent her early married years raising her three children and later worked as a receptionist and secretary at Holden Insurance Agency and Lakehead Painting & Sign in Superior for several years.

Pat was a long time member of Bethel Lutheran Church in So. Superior and served as a deacon for several years. She was also a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church Women (BLCW). Pat was a woman of strong faith and was always more concerned about others than herself. One of the greatest gifts she gave was when she volunteered to be an anonymous bone marrow donor. Several months after her donation she was notified that her marrow was given to a young woman in New York who was in great need for a transplant. The woman survived and the two of them were later brought together and became great friends. She was a very unselfish person.

Pat enjoyed horseback riding, golf with friends, travel and precious time spent with grandchildren. She and Don spent several months each year wintering in Fountain Hills, AZ and La Quinta, CA after retirement. They also would spend most of their summers at their home on Person Lake in Wascott, WI.

Pat and Don moved from Superior to Chippewa Falls, WI in 2013 to be closer to their three children and seven grandchildren.

Pat is survived by her husband, Don; children, Brenda (John) Miller of Carver, MN, Debra (Paul) Groehler of Rochester, MN, and Jeff (Karin) Shippar of Madison, WI. Seven grandchildren; Charlotte and Kelsey Miller, Aaron, Sydney, and Gavin Groehler, and Weston and Elin Shippar; brothers, Leo (Violet) Sanda, David Sanda, and Bill (Sandy) Sanda; sister, Mary (Bill) Lucas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; sister-in-law Cheryl (David) Sanda; and brother in law, Joseph Shippar.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, Feb. 3rd, beginning with a visitation at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, from 4 to 7 p.m., and a funeral service on Saturday, Feb. 4th, at 10:30 a.m., at Bethel Lutheran Church, 5821 John Avenue, Superior. Reverend Mark Holmes will officiate.

The interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior. Following the committal prayers, everyone is invited back to the church for a luncheon.

Memorial gifts in Pat's memory can be made to Bethel Lutheran Church Women.

The family would like to thank Dr. Preema Peethambaram and the entire medical, surgical and nursing staff at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN who cared for Pat for over 12 years. Dr. Peet, as we often called her, was so compassionate, caring, and supportive of her throughout her many rounds of chemo and radiation treatment. We also thank Honor Health Osborn Medical Center in Scottsdale,AZ for the care they provided in her final days as well as Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale. She is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."
