Captain Kenneth William Edmiston (who was the son of Edmonton, Alberta's first Architect), was a distinguished Officer with The Canadian Grenadier Guards and served with the 87th Battalion (Canadian Grenadier Guards) CEF during WW1. While serving with The Canadian Grenadier Guards, he was attached to the Royal Air Force (RAF) as an Observation officer on the Italian War Front.

1914 – 23 September – Attested with 19th Alberta Dragoons as Lieutenant

1915 – 1 April – Proceeded overseas with 1st Canadian Calvary Division and On Command with Special Service Squad

1915 – 12 June – Admitted to hospital and diagnosed with tonsilitis

1915 – 26 June – Invalided to England for medical treatment

1915 – 6 October – Appointed Assistant Instructor with Canadian Military School (UK)

1916 – 6 September – Promoted Captain as a General List Officer

1917 – 4 February – Awarded a MEMO / MID – Brought to the notice of the Secretary of State for War for valuable services rendered in connection with the war. "Hard working and quiet, has done good steady work and is suitable as Staff Captain."

1917 - 11 May – Transferred to 23rd Reserve Battalion as Captain

1917 – 23 October - Posted to 87th Bn (Canadian Grenadier Guards) CEF as Captain (1 Year 4 months 21 days)

1918 – 24 July - Attached for duty with Royal Air Force (RAF) WING 14 as Observation Officer on Italian Front flying Bristol F.2 Aircraft

1919 – 13 March – Ceases to be attached to RAF and returned to Canada and discharged from CEF
